The Lemosho Route is one of the newer routes on Kilimanjaro and our preferred choice, thanks to its balance of low traffic, superb scenery and a high summit success rate. It approaches the mountain from the west, beginning with a long drive to Londorossi Gate, and spends the first two days trekking through rainforest to the Shira Ridge. Unlike Machame, which simply clips the Shira Plateau, Lemosho crosses the whole plateau from west to east on a pleasant and relatively flat hike.
You will encounter very few other climbers until the route joins Machame, after which Lemosho follows the southern circuit through Lava Tower, Barranco and Barafu, descending by the Mweka route. It is widely considered the most scenic way up the mountain, granting panoramic views from several sides. Park fees, camping fees, three meals a day, mineral water, a sleeping bag, porters, cook, guide and your summit certificate are included.
