The Karen Blixen Museum is the farmhouse where the Danish author lived from 1917 to 1931 while running a coffee plantation at the foot of the Ngong Hills. It was from this house that she wrote Out of Africa under the pen name Isak Dinesen, and the suburb of Karen that grew around it still carries her name.
The house has been kept much as it was, with original furniture alongside pieces used in the 1985 film, and guides walk you through the rooms explaining her life on the farm, her relationship with Denys Finch Hatton and the collapse of the coffee business that eventually sent her home. The gardens look out towards the Ngong Hills where Finch Hatton is buried. Entrance fees, hotel transfers, mineral water and a guide are included.
