Carnivore in Langata is Nairobi’s best known restaurant and has twice been ranked among the fifty best in the world. Meat is roasted on traditional Maasai swords over a huge charcoal pit at the centre of the dining room, then carved directly onto your plate by waiters circulating between the tables until you lower the paper flag on your table to signal that you have had enough.
The all you can eat selection covers beef, lamb, pork, chicken and a rotating list of more unusual cuts such as ox testicles and crocodile, served with a spread of sauces and side dishes. A full vegetarian menu is available and is far better than the name of the place suggests. Transfers from your hotel and back are included, and this works well as an evening add-on to any Nairobi day trip.
